All the evidence that we've seen says that 'reintegration' doesn't work - or is imperfect - or doesn't work yet. Plot-wise, i think it only served to move Mark in a new direction. Petey's procedure got Mark starting to think about his innie, while before he was indifferent.
I think the Cobel episode served to explain why she could turn on Lumen so completely. I don't think it needed a whole desolate episode to do that, but that's what we got.
