It's what my son had to do when someone's precious family pet attacked him. With little fluffy trying to rip a chunk out of his thigh he pounded it in the head a few times. Didn't work! That's when he started gouging one of its eyes out. It let go of him then and decided to go back to the front porch it was sitting on to begin with.

Most apex predators will protect their eyes at all costs, even big sharks. Losing an eye means compromised hunting skills and that can lead to starvation and death. Always go for the eyes.
