Yes, the cap's gone up since Cosmi's deal, but I'd rather have Cosmi than Smith for this team.
And he'll decline it.
And I'd move on with life.
Meanwhile he's going to get a bigger contract than Chris Lindstrom and he's not better at ANYTHING than Lindstrom is. Not even close in pass pro and not as good in the running game.
He's nearer guys like Wyatt Teller and Damien Lewis who are making around $14 million/season than he is Chris Lindstrom or Landon Dickerson. Anything above $15 million/season is an overpay based on what he'd actually bring to the team.

Veach was on Cody Tapp’s show and specifically said that their models showed that based on the previous salary cap growth, the model projected $270 million for the cap and they were surprised that it was way over projection at $281 million and that it changed their outlook. 10.5% growth from the cap.
Pretty clear that extra money gave them more to work with, thus the renewed negotiations. Cosmi’s deal you mentioned is 18.5 APY. Well, with inflation the value of Cosmi’s deal is now equivalent to Lindstrom’s deal he received.
Of course he will likely get $22 million APY if he sets the market. But again a lot of these contracts are fluff and we need to see the structure.
Either way, Taylor Swift reportedly added a billion dollars of value to the NFL this year, so in a way Taylor might be the reason they keep Trey Smith. Funny how life works.
