This also tracks with the logic of trying to keep Smith. If you want to be sure you can run the football deep into January next year, letting the best run blocker go doesn’t help the cause.
Could you retain Smith, Thuney back to LG, and sign the LT while also drafting a lead back to pair with healthier Pacheco and see where that takes you?
I think so. There is no LT available out there who can prevent what happened in the Super Bowl while passing almost exclusively. The run game has to be viable.

He wasn’t even in the top 20 for pass block win rate for IOL. Sure run blocking was better, but we are a passing team. 20 million per for a bottom third pass blocker in a pass first offense is a bad decision IMO.
