Maybe not. Maybe he was doomed to fail. But if Mahomes had seen that, I think he might have left the protections pretty static and relied on his processing ability to attack wherever the blitz came from.

I don't think he would've felt the need to completely 'kill' the blitz, but rather would've thought that merely slowing it might be enough. So rather than get a coverage adjustment, maybe he just lets it ride and plays things as they come. Maybe ONE blitzer gets through that way, but the entire right side of the line wouldn't have failed like it did for Buffalo.
