Windows can be kind of finicky with this. Obviously, your machine needs to at least be able to read NTFS volumes in order to access files on the external drive. It's difficult to do more than snatch individual files because the NTFS filesystem is so proprietary. And even with a new windows machine, you can run into Windows permissions issues that can prevent you from using the external drive to its fullest. Have I mentioned I hate Windows?
