I'm going to enjoy pointing this out next season....when your team is, again, average. You wont be able to use "he's doing good for a rookie" excuse anymore. Nix is a high floor, low ceiling QB...and already 25. He also played the most college games in history. He's the same age as Trevor Lawrence.
I dont expect him to make a huge jump from this year to next. Donks are going to be a season-to-season team...kind of like the Titans/Chargers/Raiders were. Have a decent year every once in a while...and it's entirely contingent on the supporting cast and some luck. Nix wont be a "put the team on your back" type of QB...his ceiling is similar to a Tannehill.
That's what purgatory is...decent but never really in serious contention for championships.
Alex Smith was on some stacked KC teams...amounted to nothing. Beat both the Seahawks and Patriots that Superbowl year.

The Bills are going through a reset year and Josh Allen still out then in contention for the #1 seed. Same thing in Baltimore. Their defense struggled so much and Lamar has performed to expectations. Then you add Mahomes and what he’s done. And as much as I don’t like Burrow he’s done a great job keeping them in games overall despite his defense going to hell and a HC that isn’t good.
This is why it’s so important to get a QB with a high ceiling instead of just a high floor. Nix did next to nothing after that great throw on the first drive.
The Broncos best shot with Nix will be in the next 3 years while he isn’t being paid and they can add talent in FA, but it’s a Tua/Purdy type deal. They’ll look good on paper until it comes time to perform against great teams.
They’re gonna have to surround the kid with elite talent like SF and DET did but like I’ve mentioned before, this ain’t the NFC.
The odds of the Broncos getting the 1 seed playing in this division are low. The odds of them beating 2 of the best QB’s in the conference on the road is low as well.
