I think it's mostly preemptive voting.

I don't think Mizzou is as good as their resume right now (though I do think they're a solid team) and I think voters kinda expect them to struggle in conference play.

So rather move them up to just knock them down they just aren't moving them.

And yes, the SEC is brutal. Could well be historically great.

We really missed our window during the SECs down period. We took advantage of it by hiring Kermit ****ing Anderson and then settling for mediocrity in Cuonzo.

Mizzou had a real shot to establish themself near the top of this conference and just fiddle-****ed around until the football schools decided "hey, why ARENT we actually trying in basketball? We have more money than we can reasonably spend..."

To even be in the top half of the SEC this season might require one of the 15 best teams in the programs history. That's how god-awful brutal this conference is.
