No, because Darnold is significantly more accurate downfield than Purdy. That's what you're missing.
Purdy's efficiency was completely supported by the fact that CMC is Marshall Fualk. A RB that can run the entire route tree, run option routes, hots, etc. And since he mostly lines up in the backfield or the slot, he's not coverable by any LB/S. So he's open immediately every single time, within 10 yds of the LoS.
Without CMC, Purdy had to try and force passes beyond the sticks, and every defense sat on the sticks this season when they figured out Purdy couldn't throw deeper with any consistency. Purdy is just a more durable version of Tua.
Darnold can throw accurately and with velocity much farther than Prudy, so he'd still be effective without JJ, just not quite as efficiently. But the plays would still be there, and Darnold could still make the throws.
