This whole thing is like watching social division play out in real time. Troll wnba media sends out dog whistle that Clark has white privilege. The league refuses to accept her and even her teammates are bullied for being affiliated with her. Her fans start to resent other players and even her teammates. A bunch of Clark "fans" who don't even pay attention to the sport jump in and start firing back. Troll media doubles down on Clark having a racist fan base. Which is why a lot of support for things like rookie of the year has become tribal. For many it isn't about who the better player is, it's whose side you are on in this division.
And this is exactly what those media trolls wanted much as they want to play victim. It's why even activist media like espn have booted them from covering other sports. And it's a shame because this goes very different if they just embraced her from the beginning.
