I think the correlation is with social media, not the Patriots.... if a million people spread across the country thought the NFL was rigged in the 70s, how would anyone know unless you happened to be sitting next to someone shouting at clouds at a bar or something?
I don't remember anyone in the early 2000s really talk about the tuck rule game being rigged, but I think at that time most people around here didn't mind since it ****ed over the Raiders.
Even today, I've never heard anyone at a game or out and about in the real world really talk about the NFL being rigged unless it's brought up as a topic of discussion (as opposed to a play happening on TV or while sitting at the stadium)... it's all on social media, which pushes it to mainstream media.
