I think a lot of teams see that as a path of least resistance but underestimate how difficult it is to drive the field doing it.

Our defense is just full of sure tacklers. The DBs are incredibly aggressive and physical - they will wrap you up. The LBers are really good laterally and even if you catch the ball, they'll be in immediate pursuit and when they hit you, you stop moving.

Trying to get down the field laterally is a 12-14 play drive waiting to happen and there just aren't many teams that have the requisite precision to do that. They'll drop a pass, commit a penalty, get hit behind the LOS after missing a block - something that will put them behind the sticks. And it'll fall apart.

If Shanahan does that, he needs to be committed to going for it on 4th down anytime he's at the beyond his OWN 40 yard line. Because that's what it will take to win this game that way. And if he wants to go ahead and neuter the downfield ability of Aiyuk and Deebo for us - well go right ahead, bud.
