I dug into the PFF grades on the 49ers. Yes, I know that grading system is mostly trash, but wanted to see what it said. I have 2 weeks to kill, so why not. Here’s my summary of what PFF thinks:
-Purdy is the 6th best QB this year (I wouldn’t blame you if you just stopped reading now)
-Every receiver and weapon grades out at least pretty well (no surprise there)
-Every RB has a really bad pass blocking grade (if true, Spags is salivating thinking about creative blitz packages for this one)
-PFF doesn’t like Kyle Juszcyk for some reason. Good pass blocker, but poorly graded everywhere else. I don’t get that one, but haven’t watched much of him this year.
-1 good pass blocker on the OL (Williams obviously) and 4 turnstiles (Burford their RG has a 27 Pass blocking grade out of 100 - sorry Lamar, he’s still higher than your Wonderlic)
-Ward grades out well (no surprise)
-Rest of their secondary is pretty average to below average
-PFF loves Warner (obviously)
-Greenlaw grades out alright. Other linebackers are average.
-They love Bosa (duh)
-Hargrave and Armstead grade out well as a pass rushers but terrible run defense
-PFF really doesn’t like any of their interior DL except Hargrave or Armstead. Joseph-Day is their third favorite and he has a 60 overall.
-Bosa is the only guy on the DL with even a decent Run Defense grade. Chase Young is second with a 63. Everyone else is in the 50’s or lower.
-Kicker and Punter are very average. Kicker has attempted the most PATs but the 27th most field goals. Rookie kicker with limited exposure. Could be key. 21/25 on the year.
Here’s my summary:
Elite level weapons on offense. One really good OL and the rest are bad. Could struggle with blitz pick up.
Decent secondary with a couple nice players. Star at LB and another really good LB. DL has 1 star and a few decent pass rushers but highly susceptible to the run.
Young kicker could choke if they need a clutch field goal.
