This is a question that you we will never know the true answer to, because whatever answer Veach gives to the question can't be relied upon for accuracy. Not that Veach would lie, but he is pretty good at saying a lot of words without actually saying anything.
I do think Veach, and his entire scouting department need to, at the very least, evaluate how they identify WR targets.
They should revisit thier notes and work ups on McLaurin, Metcalf, Pickens, Puka, Skyy Moore etc etc and see what they missed. Then look at what they got right about Rice.
Because Skyy Moore is not an NFL receiver. What did they even see in Powell? What did Toney do that made them EVER believe he could be WR1?
If Veach really is a new age type GM, meaning he is an anti-Pioli, anti-Dorsey, and anti-Peterson and can admit mistakes, there is no reason why the situation won't be greatly improved next year.
Let's just hope Mahomes can magic the shit out of this and drag us to a SB.
