Yep, Kelce is possibly the first read here, either by design or because he’s Kelce.
Look at the defense, though: I can’t tell if the call was just standard zone and the safety decided to abandon his middle of the field to help with Kelce or if the play call was designed to bracket Kelce with Quay Walker and the safety the whole time. You can see Walker is on Kelce like glue. Every other defender is defending their space and he just heads straight for Kelce’s pocket. The safety does similar, he’s drifting with Kelce and drops down once he sees Kelce hit the whip.
Either way, it should have been clear very quickly that Kelce wasn’t open there. I think either throw here results in a pretty easy TD, tbh.
I’m not upset or anything. Still love Mahomie but this is a microcosm of our season here. He definitely needs to step up (as do the tackles and WRs).
