Here's the other thing - I'm old enough to remember the LAST 'Eagles Dynasty' that never was.
The 2017 Eagles were touted as the best young roster in football with an ascending young MVP caliber QB, substantial draft capital and a 10 year window of dominance...
The went 31-33-1 over the next 4 seasons and blew the damn thing up.
Meanwhile the WORST 4-year stretch that we've had since Reid got here over a decade ago is 42-22.
This level of sustained success just doesn't happen. And because it doesn't, teams are constantly building on foundations of sand; they're constantly patching holes as they surface and as those are addressed, new ones appear.
It's why you don't see 5-10 year runs like we've had with any regularity. You don't see many teams that average over 5 years what we've averaged over 10. You don't see many teams accomplish over 10 years what we've accomplished in 5.
This league is just ungodly difficult. There is no panacea. There is no silver bullet. I've said this before but anytime someone says "Why don't they just..." I immediately tune them about because it suggests some level of ambivalence or outright laziness from the Chiefs. It suggests an easy button and as such can be summarily ignored.
Everything is a balancing act. The Chiefs lost a SB when their protection cratered. They won a SB with mediocre weapons. It made ALL the sense in the world to learn from those two lessons and do exactly what Veach did this offseason.
