Every one is different and prefers different types of guns. Best advice would be to go shoot them and make your choice.
However, if you are going to recommend a pistol over a revolver he would be probably be more interested in something like a ruger lc9.

This topic is almost as volatile as "who has the best BBQ?".
The best weapon is the one you can hit what you aim at and with at 115gr JHP +p the 9mm is pretty much perfect for a CCW against anything human or smaller IMHO. I've always had good luck with Springfield for what it's worth. Not sure why they're not more popular.
