I spent the last week in New Mexico fishing the Rio Grande in the gorge just north of Taos.
I had never fished this river before, so I took a guide the first day and did it on my own for the next 3.
It was a beautiful, remote area and it was a hell of a hike - 700 feet down to the gorge bottom. The hike in wasn't so bad, but the hike out after a day of crawling over car sized boulders was a bit tough.
At the trailhead - can't even see the river here:
The river is finally in sight:
A pretty brown:
A 19 incher, but he was so long and skinny! This guy would be a monster if he could put on some weight:
A beautiful, wild rainbow. Look at those pretty, sharp fins and nice pointy nose. This is so much better than those nasty stocked hatchery fish:
Catch of the weekend - a monster brown!
My guide wanted a picture of the fish too! He said it was the biggest fish any of his clients had taken all year. Of course, his photo turned out way better than mine:
