Once the Vikings went to 0-2 on the back of yet another dick-stepping contest, it was time to consider making the move. Gets Cousins in there for a couple days of seeing a gameplan go in and puts him ahead enough of the game to be able to step in and start in week 3.
And he's on an expiring deal so there's no long-term liability for the Jets. Meanwhile IF Rodgers decides to retire, they have Cousins as a possible fall-back who's gotten more familiar with the organization and might be excited to stick around.
Yeah, the deal should be done. But as you said - it makes too much sense to happen.
