$22.575 million; it's actually 24.7 million with Donald.
Most critically is that all 5 of those deals were signed within the last 4 months. THAT'S the market.
Now what I think his agent is likely leaning into is the exorbitant franchise tag number that Jones had next season. The guys who signed this year didn't have that. They had either 5th year option figures or they had a $22 million(ish) franchise tag number.
SOP for a lot of agents is to START with the franchise tag figure for the following year as essentially locked in place. With another $10 million in franchise tag numbers, I could see his agents saying "top of the non-Donald Market is $24 million; $10 extra million spread over 4 years is $2.5 million so $26.5 million is what we want...."
But that ignores the fact that Hargrave, a very similar player at the same age as Jones would be just hit the free agent market unencumbered and signed for $20 million/yr.
If I'm Veach I split the difference and say $25.25 million/yr is a puke point for me. It's fair by any definition. The market is as set as a market can get. The Donald contract was universally and summarily ignored by every team looking to get a defensive tackle signed/extended.
It ain't racism, Jettio - it's ****ing
math.
