The failure of the market to develop threw them a curveball they weren't ready for.
So I do think we can actually consider the possibility of mere incompetence on Katz's part rather than bad-faith.
Hanlon's Razor is useful again: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity..."
There's a good chance that Katz just royally ****ed up his read on the DT market, put himself in a bind and is now doubling down on stupid.

I want to believe that. At what point does someone (Jones) have to be the voice of reason here though? The agent only cost himself 3% of whatever this holdout ends up costing Jones. Jones needs to care about the money he's losing now more than any possible future earnings.
