You may not be able to get Jones age 29 without an extension:
- Does he hold out part of the season?
- Is he unmotivated and has a subpar season because he felt unappreciated?
- Is his 2023 cap number too high for what you get out of him?
And if you let him walk at age 30, there are probably 25 sacks scattered over the next 3 years from the DT position leaving out the door with him. How many of those will you get back from whoever your replace him with?
How much will the sack production of our DE fall off because Chris Jones is no longer facing double teams?
It isn't as easy as skimming Chris Jones age 29 cream from the top and then dumping him.
