Another thing to consider while you're here is visiting a range. It will probably the only chance you'll ever have to fire a gun.
I work at a range now, and we often get foreigners who come in wanting to shoot. As long as they have passports and are from a country on the accepted list, which includes Australia, they're good to go. They pretty much universally enjoy the experience.
