I'm warming to the idea if Hopkins can restructure his deal in a way that gives us adequate flexibility in 2023 to offer him an extension into '24 (with a makeable out in '25).
But remember that we have a fair number of guys who get raises next season (Taylor being the obvious one, then Gay and Sneed if we want to retain them) so there's going to be some cap pressure again next year.
Of the two, I'd rather have OBJ because I think he threatens more areas of the field than Hopkins does. I said it when Hopkins was in Houston and a true superstar - he's just not someone I truly feared. He's a premier possession receiver but that has its limits. And he wasn't someone who got better with better QB play, nor did he really move the needle a ton for Houston. They were actually at their best when Fuller was healthy.
But Brett '**** around and find out' Veach doesn't seem like someone that's going to sit idly by and wait for OBJ to get his house in order. Maybe the Chiefs can leverage these trade talks into getting OBJ into gear and making up his mind.
But if not and we get Hopkins on a palatable 3 year deal for a late 2 and maybe get a 5th in the exchange, I can handle that.
