If you played for a franchise that was always going to the playoffs, always on primetime, then you just had more eyeballs on you and the voters would remember these guys like Cherry or Otis. Especially before cable, ESPN, etc. But if you played for a franchise that almost never got primetime games, especially when it was just MNF, never got into the playoffs, then you get overlooked, simply because a lot fewer people were watching you play.

Yeah, the Chiefs weren't the league's premier franchise at that point. Deron played in the era where Ronnie Lott got all of the attention as well. He didn't get the credit that he deserved.
