Those situations occur when the ball hits the chest at just the right second during cardiac rhythms. If the heart has contracted at a certain point and the heart has expelled blood and the valves are closed (maybe open?) then a sharp blow to the chest will literally make the heart stop and it’s very difficult to bring someone back in that circumstance.
that’s why they’re doing CPR and why this is a very serious injury.
