As a little snippet, here's the career trajectory of the ten quarterbacks drafted in 2017. I look at cumulative passing yards by year.
They fall pretty easily into four tiers.
1. Four never-was guys. Low drafted QBs Davis Webb (well, 3rd round guy there), Chad Kelly, and Brad Kaaya have never completed a pass. We'll put Josh Dobbs and his 45 career yards into this group as well. Kaaya had some good draft evaluations in 2017, so I'm surprised that he never got a shot.
2. Three spot-duty guys. Nathan Peterman has played a few games here and there. CJ Beathard and Deshone Kizer both got starting shots early in their career, mostly as injury replacements if I remember right, and couldn't hold the job. Kizer got good draft reviews, so he's perhaps the biggest surprise.
3. Two fizzlers. Deshaun Watson and Mitchell Trubisky both got handed starting jobs, and both have actually received pro bowl slots. But they both flat-lined after the 2020 season for different reasons.
4. One super duper mega happy time star. Patrick Mahomes II. Our guy, soaring across the sky and shattering records with every sonic boom.
