I work in manufacturing. I'm a manager for a mid size facility. The thing young supervisors (and some experienced ones) do wrong a lot of times is mistake acting like a blunt jackass for "just being honest". If an employee is not meeting the standards you can let them know that without degrading them. It builds much better chemistry among you and your employees if you're honest with a little empathy.
