Spoiler!
Time for Raiders to move on from QB Derek Carr
By Clark Dalton | Last updated 11/8/22
Las Vegas may need to fold on Derek Carr the same way experienced poker players fold on a losing hand.
According to Pete Grathoff of the Kansas City Star, Carr's name was trending on Twitter after the Raiders' 27-20 loss against the Jaguars on Sunday. The fanbase relentlessly mocked him.
They're condemning Carr because the Raiders (2-6) are last in the AFC West and have blown three leads of 17 points or more. One reason why they've crashed is his declining play.
Through eight games, Carr's completed 62.3 percent of his passes and posted an 88.5 passer rating. These numbers are below the league average and the third-worst in his career.
What makes Carr's slide puzzling is he's surrounded by talent. The Raiders were a 10-7 playoff team last season, and they expected to improve after they traded for Davante Adams.
The Raiders' crumble has clearly affected the former Pro Bowl QB, who's played for six head coaches in nine seasons.
"I've been in this situation a lot where new coaches or this or that and you have to teach the new guys like this is how we do it...that gets tiring," Carr said in a postgame news conference.
He's shattered since he carried the franchise for years, leading it to the playoffs twice. The Raiders can't continue to destroy their franchise and ask the 31-year-old to rebuild it.
Barring a miraculous turnaround, the Raiders should consider parting ways with Carr this offseason, letting him go to another team where he can succeed.
