That's a QB that's just way too programmed; no intuition at all.

He's reading the single high, IMO. The safety drifts with Toney so Jones locks in on the vertical route.

The problem is that Jones never did anything to SELL the slant. If he looks to Toney he might be able to get the safety to drive on it and open up the vertical. Or if he at least recognizes he never made the safety commit, he can come back underneath. Because by doing nothing at all, he actually did sell the vertical route, if only by accident.

But he never put the single-high at a decision point. He never forced him to commit so he could just keep on drifting. And Jones was just too laser-locked at that point to work down his progression.

It's just bad quarterback play (obviously). There are so many ways that play should've been a win and Jones just didn't do any of 'em.
