They had agreed that a new contract would happen before the trade...it was part of the agreement.
It's why he didnt play in the preseaon until it was finalized...
It was also part of the sale...like I've said, you dont spend $250 million on a QB without the new owners signing off on it. They are the ones who will be paying him...
Paton was doing what he was told...GMs cant just haphazardly spend other people's money.
New ownership wanted a name brand QB to usher in their "era"....needed to do something to generate interest with KC winning 13 straight.
It's completely gone sideways...if not for all the injuries, I would theorize that it was being set-up to make Wilson a hero. I haven't written them off yet...NFL loves it's comeback narratives. There are a lot of 3 win teams right now. If they could make the 2015 Donk champs with the 30th ranked QB...and Oswieler pulling off 4th quarter comeback wins against the Patriots, they can manufacture anything.
