Maybe 'great' was too strong, but he was definitely much better than average - he was just too damn conservative for my liking.

Yeah his playcalling was horribly conservative and drove me up a wall. Also had a chronically undersized offensive line that was always pushed around leaving Elway running for his life. Reeves could only get us so far and I saw the way Denver lit it up when Shanahan became OC and began scripting with Elway. Then Phillips brought up the defense. I said the day Shanahan was hired as the HC, "We just won the Super Bowl." I knew what was coming and it didn't take that long.
