I think Paton read it right. Chris Ballard - who like Paton is considered one of the top two talent evaluators in the league - has been searching every nook and cranny for a QB since Andrew Luck left him and he decided he'd rather trade for Wentz than make a move for Fields.

They picked up Wentz 6 weeks before the draft...and were picking 21st. They would have had to sell the farm...Ballard is one of the most conservative GMs...he's not going to do that.
Doinks had Fields fall in their lap for no additional cost...it was a dumb move. It was a gift-wrapped, no-brainer. Nobody takes a CB over a potential franchise QB...well almost nobody.
As you've seen with Rosen...it he tanks, you can flip him and move on It's not like it was 10 years ago...
