To be fair though, I think that goes for music in general today. It’s all about singles and “hits”. Back in the day, it was about albums. Albums would tell an entire story. It was pure art. Now it’s just dumbed down trash. Obviously they always used singles to sell albums, but they put a lot more effort into the albums themselves.
That’s why I like guys like Kendrick and J Cole. They’re old school.

I don't view much music as "trash".
It's all just different. This song, this album slaps hard.
I'm not gonna sit here and be that guy that just hates on genres because it's not the genre I grew up with.
The beat makes my subs pound and my head bounce. I got no problem with Trap music. And I was a kid who grew up on west coast gangster rap.
I don't listen to rap music for outstanding lyrical content. Most of it, lyrically, is all the same in terms of what they're talking about. And has been for decades now.
1. Does the the beat knock? Yeah, we good then.
2. Is the hook catchy? Yeah? We good then.
I don't care how well a dude can spit bars if 2 mins in im bored as **** cuz the beat aint knockin or the hook blows ass.
