As a Saints fan I sometimes wonder if we are actually better off without Drew. Don’t get me wrong, he is/has been the best QB in our franchise’s lackluster history, but the Brees of the last couple of years has been great, but not elite. Would we be better off with another QB? Who knows. Right now Brees is still a top 10 quarterback, and that’s nothing to be upset about, but if you were to drop a top prospect quarterback, or a quarterback like Stafford/Winston/etc (someone who has shown promise, but just not in the right situation) could they be elevated to a top 10 status surrounded by the talent that Drew has had around him? Who knows.
As it is, we have a lot of talent, and unfortunately a lot of them need to get paid. I wouldn’t say we don’t go full abyss when Drew leaves, but unless we get the right guy under center, it could be purgatory.
