That was a Franchise killing move. That is how you end up with Case Keesum.
Mahomes would average 6,000 yards a year in that thin donk air and would kick our asses twice a year forever.

Let's be honest... they traded 31 and a R 3 to move to 26. They didn't exactly mortgage the future. But, yes - that trade made it unwise to trade up again the following year.
Hell, I can't argue with the Chubb pick at 5 last year - but rather than saying what they missed with a big trade up for Mahomes, you could point to last year. I wasn't thrilled with any of the QBs, looks like Mayfield would have been worth it... they passed on Josh Allen, which I was happy with at the time.
Leading into the draft, I was curious about Lamar Jackson and how he would play and as he fell to the bottom of R1, I was hoping they traded back into R1 to get him.
Doing that, they would have missed on Sutton and he looks good. So, considering how Chubb and Sutton have fared, I don't have an issue really - both have huge futures. I'm not sold on Jackson or Allen being long-term QBs of the future.
Mayfield though... I still think he's a douche, but he played well. Not making a move from 5 to 1 could be regrettable. We'll see.
