From McGinn on Saquon Barkley:
Spoiler!
When 15 personnel people were asked this month to name the best football player in the draft regardless of position, 10 ½ votes were cast for the Penn State stallion compared to 1 ½ for defensive end Bradley Chubb of North Carolina State and one each for Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield and Notre Dame guard Quenton Nelson.
“If I’m John Dorsey and I have the first and fourth picks I know where I go. Barkley,” an executive in personnel said in reference to the first-year general manager of the Cleveland Browns. “He should be the first pick in the draft.”
Another personnel man called Barkley “the best player in the draft and also the safest player in the draft. He’ll have a really good career from Day 1.”
“I don’t know if Dorsey will take him but there isn’t anything in there that you would think negatively,” said another scout. “If you had to put your money on a guy who definitely will be a star, that would be the guy.”
1. SAQUON BARKLEY, Penn State (6-0, 233, 4.39, 1): Third-year junior. “That dude is built to last,” one scout said. “He’s a big Barry Sanders.”
...
“He was their No. 1 receiver in most games,” said a third scout. “When he catches the ball it’s like a touchdown. When he returns it’s like it, too. You know you’re getting a guy that can carry it 20 times a game. You also know they’re going to have to keep (extra) people in the box to stop him.
