We signed arguably the best free agent off the ball LB.
Johnson and Butler are too close to 30 to justify overpaying. We showed interest in Mathieu, but probably couldn’t make it work with a one year deal (which is what he was probably looking for considering his market). Veach at least secured Fuller when he knew Peters was gone and quickly got a guy that’s had success and we are familiar with in Amerson. Things could definitely be worse there.
There were no edge rushers this year in free agency, so anybody complaining about not upgrading there is a ****ing moron.
It’s easy as a fan to say “we should’ve gotten a _____”, but that’s not how this works. When you try to fix a defense through free agency and focus on needs instead of fits and players you actually really like (Veach tried trading for Watkins and Hitchens in TC) you end up with a Sean Smith, Bruce Irvin, and Reggie Nelson kind of offseason that sounds good on paper but doesn’t actually fix anything at all.

I want the Chiefs to do it because that's what the **** they said they'd do when they justified keeping Sutton around. Now the difference makers are gone, we might actually be a bit worse talent wise on the defense, and our first pick is #54.
