Social media used for private communications enables it, sure, but there has to be more to it than the number of cases has risen like that. Some of it might be downfall from the over-sexualization of kids/teens in movies and TV. I'm not sure what else is contributing to it. I'm 47 and when I was in high school (and middle school like some of these kids are), I don't remember even being suspicious of anything like this, nor do I remember guys even hinting about fooling around with a teacher.
