Don't get me wrong, Smith was the right QB at the time to bring this franchise immediate respectability. When your QB stable features such stalwarts as Cassel, Quinn, Stanzi, and the never to be remembered Alex Tanney , the draft class featured such luminaries as Manuel, Barkley, Glennon, and fan fav Geno, you take the chance on A. Smith. And it worked, sort of. You can't deny 5 straight winning seasons. But you also can't deny a playoff record of 1-4. It's like being the Homecoming King and the Queen is your cousin who's trans.
Nope, it's time to move on. It does absolutely no good to keep Smith next year. Regardless whether we trade him or cut him, we have $20M in our pocket to upgrade our D and LG. Mahomes isn't going to learn anything more sitting on the bench. I'm sure he'll throw away a couple games next year and we might even have a losing season. But I'm awfully tired of seeing games pissed away because we don't move the chains in the 2nd half.
