He wants his friend to fail? Then you don't understand the sport. You think Dungy wanted Marv Lewis to fail? BB wanted McDaniels to fail in Denver? That isn't how it works, generally. Absolutely everyone who has worked iwth BB has said very positive things about his mentoring them to move up to the next level, advice on how to succeed as a head coach and all that.
When Mangini went to the Jets, that annoyed Belichick. It was in the same division, and BB hates the Jets. Most of the time, however, BB does his best to support the people around him in moving up to the next level if he can.
Or at least, that's what all those people actually say about him (McDaniels, Crennel, O'Brien, etc.). Most haven't done terribly well, of course, at the NFL level, but Dimitroff/Pioli are doing very well in Atlanta, and what's-his-name seems to be doing ok in Detroit, so it's hardly all bad.
But regardless, it's not like Belichick intentionally launched a nuclear missile at the Chiefs. He didn't SEND Pioli there. JFC...
