The defense was gashed for most of the day, but when it counted, they were essentially able to get off the field. The offense had two productive drives all game...both late in the 2nd half.
It’s not a great defense, but it is a defense that will limit points. Had the offense produced just one decent drive in the first half, they likely would have taken the lead going into the half (the missed Robinson play comes to mind). They stay on the field just for 3 or 4 first downs, that take TOP away from Pitt. But, the offense was as bad as I’ve seen it since the Cassel days. Almost as inept as that year we didn’t make a first down against Indy in the playoffs.
Hard to put blame on one single person but the QB position is magnified because they handle the ball on every possession. And when you miss guys by as much as Alex was missing, it looks bad. Part of it is because he never looked in Robinson’s direction. He locked in on guys. He does that when he gets nervous. That said, even had he tossed the ball in Robinson’s direction, his throws were so off today that I don’t think he would have hit any of them.
The offense, overall, wasn’t good enough.
