When the QB begins his slide you ease up. No different like taking the QB to the ground or hitting him after the ball is out. You don't fall on top of the QB. You don't drive him Into the ground. That defender purposely drove Smith's shoulder and head into the ground.

I agree but if the defender starts the tackle before or simultaneously to the slide, no foul. You cant punish a defender for tackling a ball carrier, especially on a called running play
