We lost our Aussie, Molly, a couple of years ago after almost 16 years. I wasn't sure about getting another dog but my wife was really missing Molly, so last summer we got another Aussie pup. Molly had been a tri-color (white, tan, and black). We didn't want a dog that looked like her so this time we got a red and white Aussie. The breeder had named her Red Sky and we just stuck with Sky. I mostly call her Dog or Damn Dog.
It's a good thing God made puppies cute because she wouldn't have survived her puppyhood. Aussies are very high energy and it took along time to break her of jumping on us (she still tried with strangers; it's a work in progress). She also chewed all the things including eating all of the wiring off of both my boat trailer and my utility trailer.
She's a year old now and is finally starting to calm down. She is going to be a really good dog, I think. She actually seems to be even smarter than our last Aussie (though a bit more independent). She gets along great with our cats and is best buds with our oldest cat, a tubby torbie. She's bigger than our last Aussie too at about 45 lbs. Her dam was pretty small but her sire was the biggest Aussie I have ever seen so apparently she takes after he dad.
A couple of months ago, my wife ran over a deer that had been hit. Her CR-V has skid plates so it didn't cause any damage but it was pretty gory. We let Sky out that night without thinking about it. Sky found the gore and decided to climb under the car and clean it up. When we called her in, she was covered in blood. It was pretty gross.
