As much as I hate Brady and Manning, there's something to be said for a QB who can

  • read a defense and audible at the LOS to put the defense in the most challenging situation for defending your play,
  • Put a pass on dime when needed,
  • Get the players around them to "do their job" - which means being on the exact dime they're going to put the ball over,
  • Have a coach willing to put the time and effort into perfecting things like rub routes. Watching Edelman get separation yesterday was actually frustrating, Edelman isn't a God, the rub route all but guarantees the moment of separation, and Brady knows when that moment will be and puts the ball there.

I'm confident that if Andy was willing to put the time and effort into it, now that Alex might have a few seconds before the D kills him, the Chiefs could join the rub-route club. In fact, the rub route is perfect for QBs who might not enjoy a consistent 5-7 seconds to scan the field and give his WRs time to make a 3rd or 4th move.

Again, will Andy be willing to exit his comfort zone and experiment with what's being used against him? I don't know, we'll see September.
