Well it had about 70 miles on the this tank before it arrived and maybe my FIL gave it one last goodbye! It's also been mostly city driving for awhile getting things done to it and giving her a bit of foot!

So I am reading about skip shifting, which is actually automatically built into newer GT so they could avoid the gas guzzler tax. Not sure if you know but once you reach a certain speed in the new GTs it actually locks you out of 2nd and 3rd gear and makes you shift directly to 4th! Many disable this on their computer but say they manually drive like this at times during city driving when cruising to increase MPG.

It actually seems to work quite well as I've been trying it a few days, especially with the 4:10 gears which are going to kill my MPG anyway. 1st gear is just reeruned unless I'm trying to accelerate as fast as I can from a light. I am starting in 2nd gear always and it's smooth. At about 25 MPH I can shift straight to 4th gear from 2nd and ride the RPMs at about 1750 at 30 MPH and hit 1500 RPMs at 40 MPH in 5th gear. No engine lugging what so ever. Remember, this is a 5 gear car, not 6 like many think it is. I'm doing this many times when cruising around town to decrease the gas usage when I know I may be stopping up ahead or a long line of slower traffic in front. And on many surface streets. Sure I can crank it up and have fun sometimes but sometimes cruising is just as good and using less gas isn't always a bad thing.

Thoughts about shift skipping?

I'm getting about 21-22, same as the Monte Carlo, but would probably be more like 24-25 if I had more highway miles during the week. And I've only used 'eco-pro' mode once and immediately hated it.
Yes it's combined city and freeway. Probably will be a bit higher on the next fillup I would think. Taking her a few hundred miles out of town on the interstate this weekend so we'll see how she does!
