Unless you stipulate that just winning your division no longer grants you an automatic bid- that you have to be 8-8 or better.

I believe there is an idea floating around that 1st and 2nd seed get home field throughout and a bye, after that it is best record seeding. In this case Carolina would be the 6th seed in the playoffs despite winning their division. It would also discourage teams from sitting their starters in the final weeks (even though the NFL mostly fixed that by scheduling divisional games at the end).
