After comparing 2003 and 2004 numbers, there's no clear cut way that we won 25 more games in 2003. Pitching was lousy both seasons. In 2004 we were last in the AL in team era and strikeouts. We scored 116 more runs in 2003. I'm guessing our offensive output was just enough to mask our below avg pitching. We had one 10 gm winner in 2003, BTW.
