MO Cannabis medical card-Been a while since weed was legalized recreationally in MO

Anyways, mines coming up. They’re a little pricey, worth it or go recreational rogue?

I guess if you have a situation where a med card would keep you employed or out of trouble it might be worth it. If for no reason I'd say go recreational.

You can grow your own in Missouri if'n you want.

Weed is ghetto.

4% tax to 6% tax isn’t a very big lure.
Colorado recreational tax is over 25%.

So makes a little more sense.

Just googled the price of a med card in Missouri. Says it's $27.40. This seems like it would pay itself off if you're buying much.

Keep in mind that while it's legal in many states, it is still illegal federally. So if you have a government job, a government contracting job, or a job in a sector like aerospace or finance, you might have trouble getting a job because they make you disclose under penalty of fines and imprisonment.

Just legalize it in every state already

It's going to require federal legislation unfortunately.

Katipan 04-15-2025 08:11 AM

At $300 an ounce it’s cheaper to take a train to CO.
Illegal too but whatever.

TribalElder 04-15-2025 08:14 AM

as others have stated I believe the draw is it saves you some taxes. Also it might be on a 3 year renewal cycle if you aren't a grower. (disclaimer: I do not have a med card and have never had one)

Katipan 04-15-2025 08:15 AM

In theory you have higher dosages too.
But barring severe chronic pain, you don’t need it.

Katipan 04-15-2025 08:16 AM

Oh I suppose it’s helpful for travel. Many states are reciprocal.

Legally you have to have the card to grow, you also have to purchase a separate license from the state that you can only get if you have your med card. So if you plan on growing & you want to do it legally you still need the card.

Also the card makes it so you can't be fire for a random drug test at your job. They can still test you upon hiring & they can still test you if you're in an accident at work, but they can't just do a random drop & fire you over it. Other than that if you're just going to buy from the dispensary anyway I'm not sure it's worth the hassle/cost to save a small amount on taxes.

That's what you pay to the state for the card, but it also requires a prescription which you also have to pay for. Costs of the Dr "visit" (most places do virtual appointments) vary pretty wildly, I've seen well over $100 & the cheapest I think I've found was about $70 if I remember correctly. It used to only be good for 1 year, but now it lasts 3 which makes the costs much more palatable.

Yeah, wasn't clear from the OP if the doctor visit was needed. He says the card is "coming up" which I assume means for a renewal. I guess if that also requires a doctor's visit then the the whole thing could be $120 or so.
