Bat and Owl houses
Has any one ever tried to attract them?
My Dad made a Bat house and I tried for a few years...no go. I live out in the country and I do have bats and owls around. I thought it would be fun to have a house around the place so I can watch them better. I know placement is important, from what I have read. Both ~12' up and be on a pole. Bats facing s/se for the sun, open area with no branches. Owls can be in a tree, I guess. Open area next to a field. That is about all I got... |

For the Bat house, make sure you use the Bat signal.
Attracts them like flies. |
Just don't eat the bats.
That is about all I got. |

They taste like chicken, I have heard

I have bats that try to roost under my deck every year. They make a terrible mess in the patio below. I have to run them off every year. Thankfully they hate the smell of spearmint, so a few drops of spearmint oil and they get the hell out of Dodge.

Like... together? What kind of bat-owl hybrids did you have in mind?

Bats are disgusting. Not sure how you would attract owls but that would be pretty neat.

Bugs. Better than Purple Martins. Not under my eves. Out on a pole 100 yds away...fine. I read some where that of all the flying creatures, bats are the best flyers. I can't remember the criteria.
And yes, owls are cool. Eagles and owls prey on one another. They fight like cats and dogs. Conservationist won't put them in the same enclosure. Out in the country, I can do all sorts of stuff: raise bees (looked into it), chickens, and yes even goats:) I was just curious. Putting up the houses tonight. I have 2 houses each. Owl: side of the barn, find a nice tree in the wind break. Bats: 2 large poles facing s/se. If you don't hear from me, not that you do in the first place, I fell off the ladder (hate them b*tches) |
Yeah I don't really wanna attract bats to my place
Owls yes, bats no |
I would consider getting a dire wolf puppy instead.
